| What Is Rheumatoid Arthritis? Rheumatoid Arthritis Is An Inflammatory Disease Rheumatoid arthritis may cause pain and swelling in the joints. Your hands and feet are most likely to be affected. It is also likely to affect more than one joint and is often worse in the morning until the affected joints warm up. Rheumatoid arthritis affects about 440,000 people in Australia. It occurs when too many immune cells in the body move into damaged tissue, release toxins and worsens local inflammation, thus causing pain. Australian researchers at the Garvin Institute of Medical Research in Sydney are working to find a cure for this debilitating disease, or at least, relief of its symptoms. While it could take between eight to ten years of research and millions of dollars before results may be achieved there are effective, soothing and natural treatments available that offer hope to those living with debilitating disease right now. Far Infrared Supports and Therapy Gloves are proving to be a highly effective treatment for inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Far Infrared body bands and supports can improve the quality of life for those people living with rheumatoid arthritis. The Latest Research Suggests Glucosamine is no better than placebo for Hip Arthritis Pain Relief A two-year study involving patients suffering arthritis of the hip suggests that glucosamine offers no clinically useful effect on arthritis pain reduction, function, or disease progression. In their 2008 report, Dr. Rianne Rozendaal and research team at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, found glucosamine (dose:1500 milligrams daily) had no significant effect on pain reduction, mobility, stiffness, use of pain medication, or control of hip arthritis. Despite many studies, there is no evidence that glucosamine is an effective treatment for arthritis. Thermal therapy garments using far infrared technology are proving to be an effective arthritis treatment, and unlike glucosamine, are suitable for those who are allergic to seafood products. FIR therapy garments are also suitable for pain sufferers who cannot tolerate the preservatives in cortisone medications. |

| Heat-Retaining, Far Infrared Reflective Knee Body Band Eases Arthritis Pain A report published in the journal, ''Arthritis and Rheumatism'' by Dr. Steven Mazzuca of Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis has found heat-retaining Body Bands worn over arthritic knees is effective in reducing joint pain and stiffness in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Arthritis sufferers given the heat-retaining sleeve reported up to 25 percent decrease in their score on a standard osteoarthritis index. The researchers concluded from this study that the outcome shows that the FIR heat-retaining knee support "merits further scientific investigation." |
